Year of the Bible : Week 1
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:5-9 ESV
The world was wicked. Perversion rising like a tidal wave, sweeping many into its destructive and consuming ways. The actions of humanity grieved the very heart of God. This sounds too familiar to the world we see around us. It’s crazy to think how far things have gone in the last 20 years. What used to be viewed as detestable is now celebrated, and not just in the world – in some churches too.
But what I love about this story is that God just needs one man, one who is blameless, one who is righteous, one who walks in covenant with the Lord. We need some “but Noah” type people in our city, in our schools, in our government, in our workplaces, in our homes and in our churches.
If the Lord is examining the earth, looking for a Noah, and His eyes fell on you – what would He say, what would He notice, what would be written about you?
Will you be one who stands apart, consecrated for the work of the Lord in this generation?
I believe the Lord is looking for some “Noah’s” in this generation. Will you be one who stands apart, consecrated for the work of the Lord in this generation? Following the Word of the Lord in obedience, even if it means doing something alone. Like a lighthouse in a dark sea, piercing through the fog of wickedness and confusion with truth and righteousness.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
Let your light shine for others to see, not so they know you and your good deeds but so they meet and experience the real Jesus!
