This week we’ve been reading further in the book of Isaiah. The author, being the prophet Isaiah himself, focuses his writings on one central theme, God himself.
As we read Isaiah 25, Isaiah explains that God is the ultimate victor. He is the one who brings salvation.
He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. Isaiah 25:8
As we’ve been reading through the Bible this year, we’ve been in the Old Testament from January up until now in July. It can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture as we open up our Bibles and read chapter by chapter every day. But one thing we should always keep at the forefront of our minds is that these 66 books provide a meta-narrative of God’s redemptive plan for His people.
As we read the words of scripture daily, we gain a better understanding of the nature of God and His heart for His people. As we are reading the words of Isaiah today, he is prophesying about God’s ultimate redemptive plan for His people.
To think about all that’s wrong in this world; all the hurt, the chaos, the pain, the brokenness. Then I read verses talking about God defeating death once and for all and God wiping away tears from all faces, and I can’t help but be encouraged to know that what I see here on this earth, or even what I experience doesn’t pale in comparison to what’s to come for all who place their lives in Him.
What God has in store for His children isn’t a result from a last-ditch effort to save humanity from all that’s wrong in the world, but a long assured victory of God’s kingdom, restored to its fullest measure.
It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Isaiah 25:9
Let’s be encouraged as we wait on God, knowing that His plan will prevail.
