God is speaking, are you listening?

We serve a God who is a communicator. He has spoken, He is speaking and He will continue to speak. Since the first breath of man, God has spoken to and through men. Just like young Samuel, I believe God is speaking but maybe our problem is that we do not know how to hear Him, to distinguish His voice.

1 Samuel 3:7, we Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.

There are three ways we can learn to hear the Lord. First, if we want to hear God we’ve got to start with what He’s already spoken. The question isn’t “is He speaking words?” The question is “are you reading His word?”

Someone who isn’t hearing the voice of God is someone who isn’t reading God’s word.

Second, God speaks through that inward witness, the still small voice, through the Holy Spirit. To hear Him in this manner, we must learn to tune our ears spiritually. Removing distractions, spending time in solitude and devotion and worship. God often speaks through a still small voice.

Romans 8:16, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…”

Third, we’ve got to get under Biblically sound teaching and leaders. God has designed the Christian faith to be one of personal devotion, corporate learning and missional family.

Ephesians 4:11-13, "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,"

Jesus said, “my sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.” His desire is to be heard, to be known, and for us to follow and obey and imitate Him. He is speaking, can you hear Him?
