Year in the Bible: Week 10
31 And as soon as he had finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart. 32 And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the people who belonged to Korah and all their goods. Numbers 16:31-32 ESV
This week we continued in the book of Numbers. In Numbers 16, we witness a dramatic rebellion led by Korah against Moses and Aaron. Korah and his followers challenge God’s appointed leadership, but their defiance brings swift judgment. The earth literally swallows them, demonstrating God’s unwavering authority and the seriousness of undermining His divine order.
This chapter is a powerful reminder that rebellion against God’s plans leads to destruction, but humility and submission to His will bring life! Today, we may not see the ground open beneath us, but resisting God’s direction can fracture our relationships and peace. By seeking God’s guidance through prayer and Scripture, we align ourselves with His purpose and walk in His grace.

8 “Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water. So you shall bring water out of the rock for them and give drink to the congregation and their cattle.” Numbers 20:8 ESV
In Numbers 20, we see the Israelites grumbling again for water. God instructs Moses to speak to the rock, but in frustration, Moses strikes it instead. Water flows, but this act of disobedience costs Moses the chance to enter the Promised Land. Even faithful leaders can stumble, showing us the importance of complete obedience to God’s Word!
God’s provision never fails, even when we do. The rock, a symbol of Christ, provided life-giving water despite Moses’ misstep. This points us to the living water Jesus offers, quenching our spiritual thirst and sustaining us on our journey of faith. When we trust in His provision and walk in obedience, we experience the fullness of His promises.
Through these chapters, we see both the consequences of rebellion and the abundance of God’s mercy. In what area of your life can you better pursue humility, and rely on God’s faithfulness?
