Building a Life That Lasts

In 1 Kings 2, King David is near the end of his life. As he prepares to die, he gives a final charge to his son Solomon, who will take his place as king. David doesn’t give Solomon a long list of political advice—instead, he starts with a simple but powerful message:

“Be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him…” 1 Kings 2:2-3

David knew something we all need to remember: the foundation of a successful life isn’t power, fame, or wealth. It’s obedience to God. He tells Solomon to stay faithful to God’s commands, because that’s the path to real blessing and strength.

This chapter also shows us that leadership requires wisdom. Solomon makes tough decisions to remove people who could threaten peace in the kingdom. It’s not always easy, but wisdom often means facing hard truths and doing what’s right—even when it’s difficult.

When we live by His truth, we walk in strength – even when life feels uncertain

Like Solomon, we all face moments where we need to make choices that shape our lives and influence others. In those times, God’s Word is our guide. When we live by His truth, we walk in strength—even when life feels uncertain.

And like David, one day we’ll all look back on our lives. The goal is to finish well—having followed God, loved people, and stayed faithful.
